electronics

two events in recent memory made me feel that the world is (still) a beautiful place, where it had grown dull, tarnished, or felt out of place the past few years...

[1] i got glasses.

i have pretty good vision too, but a minor stigmatism left my world slightly out of focus. i hadn't really noticed, but over the years things seemed a little off. the world became just ever so slightly hazy. city lights didn't sparkle at night. with my new specs, i felt air was crisp and alive. stars twinkled again.

[2] i fixed the damn fm antenna on my car radio.

having an fm antenna in my car and being able to listen to great radio while driving was like getting new glasses. i've been fine listening to public radio for the last ten years, the only station i could pick. i was fine with that. i still like it. so i wasn't super motivated to fix it, just kept putting that task off.

but there is something about listening to the radio, driving, and tunes that really thump. lucky me there's some decent around radio to pick-up here. i just ~feel~ more energy listening to good music, and i feel more connected listening to live radio.

the antenna saga? in order to fix my antenna i bought a tap & die kit, to tap out a cb-antenna in order to use the cb-antenna mount i already had (but could not find a replacement cb antenna mast that fit!). that along with the cb/fm splitter lets me use one antenna for both.

i could have just replaced the mount with a modern one, but i liked it and it was just a matter of getting the right part to match. i guess with the tap (hadn't done that before), i just made it work. all done now and works great.

and wouldn't ya know, after all these years and getting this sorted out, i found a place that sells the fm-antennas for my bus!

either way i'm pleases it's work'n, well - 'cept for the commercials

didn't miss those.
