tablet pc, two years later

electronics

let's see... two years now i've been running tablet pc, on two tablets no less. my first year was met with some surprise how many different ways i used my pen...

my second year has a noticeable drop in using the tablet mode. i've stopped taking as many notes at the office, and since i type faster (even picking up some speed in the last two years), it's just more convenient to bash out notes via keyboard, plus the c113 is a tad slower than the C302 resolving ink to text -older model… but the c113 is the better travel size, so i do really like it.

i didn't get any faxes or electronic docs that needed filling out, or a signature. i did get a new, fairly portable scanner this year.

i also used the pen to mark up some maps for black rock city. could have been done with a mouse, i just felt like using my pen. also drew on some images, circuit board mods and emailed to tech support. stuff possible with the mouse, but more natural with a pen.

didn't watch movies on the plane like last year, didn't need tablet mode there. heck the airline didn't even serve dinner on my last long distance flight (what's up with that?!).

i did use tablet mode in my car, to view gps maps. but the mouse is really the better interface there; it doesn't lose position when you take you hand away (fiddling with the map at stop lights, ya know).

some of these scenarios are really incidental. the biggest usage previously was taking notes, and like i said, my current project simply doesn't have a demand there. so my tablet usage (well tablet mode) has really declined.

oh -i recently did some sketch work using photoshop, editing a photo. when it comes to drawing, there is nothing like using a pen!!

so, i still love it. my daily work horse will always be a tablet, whether or not i use a pen daily or just once in a while. the versatility rocks. have said that... i would consider getting a traditional laptop as a second or third laptop, for a particular need or given circumstance (since i've already got two now).
