i'm actually looking for bluetooth gps device that won't turn off automatically, as with the globalsat bt-338 model. this one might fit the bill. i plan to just leave this on, in my car ready for use, any time.
so, unlike the simple haicom bt401 "slipper" -- which is designed to dock with the 305iii (compact flash interface) version, this model (a complete bluetooth gps solution) features a power switch. good news is the 405iii does not auto shut off after ten minutes. not only that, if you leave it switched 'on' -- it stays on, comes back up when you re-supply power (after being off, batteries drained).
although i do like the concept of not having a power switch at all -- as with the slipper + 305iii combo version. however, the "combo" model is even larger (right?). so, while versatile that's not small enough to carry around.
the switch itself protrudes out of the case quite a bit, and could get bumped. but you do have to hold the switch down for a sec, plus it's well designed protective carry-case should prevent accidental bumps on the switch.
the 405iii is larger than the globalsat bt-338, almost too large (fits in your pocket fine, unless you're already toting other items)
there's also no sd memory card here, unlike the 305iii.
hmm, there's also a new model on the market that let's the gps chip sleep, but leaves the low power bluetooth operating. extending battery life. that model might be fine for the car too.
