programming

Vierck's Law : a corollary to Moore's Law.

"software has a half-life, of 18 months".

in other words, half of all the code you write will not be in use, or obsolete within 18 months.

so on average, your code will be deployed for about 18 months. code that lasts longer than 18 months, is either an enlightened work of art or too troublesome to meddle with.

eventually all code gets replaced.

Ahahaha.. I'm currently updating code that is over fixe years old and being used by a huge ammount of people. Depends on the meme really.

half life doesn't mean it's all gone in a year,

some pieces will stay around... for a while.

eventually all code gets replaced.

including yours.

yes.

But according to vierck's law. software doesn't last long. Hell, maybe 18 months if best.
